OTTAWA, ON — The Ravens women’s soccer team repeated last year’s heavy defeat of Ryerson with another 3-0 win at MNP Park on Sunday afternoon to extend their unbeaten run to two games.

Three second-half goals propelled the Ravens to their second straight shutout victory, as the team’s back four was nearly impenetrable over the course of the 90 minutes.

Forward Nicole Filipow (Edmonton, AB) scored for a second straight game and third-year player Emily Copeland Dinan (Ottawa, ON) netted two to give Carleton a third win in five games to begin the season.

The first half got off to a quiet start, as scoring chances were scarce. Filipow and Copeland Dinan had one of the first good scoring opportunities of the game, as they played a give-and-go that ended with a Dinan shot on goal – one that was absorbed by Ryerson keeper Brittney Clendenan.

Filipow continued to excel in a playmaking role in the first half, providing Vanessa Germano (Ottawa, ON) with an open look on goal, but her on-target blast was pushed aside by the extended arm of Clendenan.

With the momentum remaining in Carleton’s favour as the second half got underway, Emily Copeland Dinan opened the scoring in the 49th minute. She was the beneficiary of a beautifully placed cross from veteran winger Amanda Ngwafusi (Ottawa, ON), whose sublime entry pass from the right flank made its way across the six-yard box where Copeland Dinan made no mistake to put the Ravens up 1-0.

The lead was doubled just six minutes later as Nicole Filipow scored her third goal of the season off of a rebound from a powerful strike by sweeper Sarah Zutrauen (Ottawa, ON).

The Ravens continued to move the ball around the field with ease, as Carleton looked put the game out of reach. First-year midfielder Tamana Ashrafi (Ottawa, ON) proved to be an effective ball distributor in the middle of the park, controlling the flow of the game and locating teammates in open spaces.

In the 65th minute, Nicole Filipow dribbled past two Rams defenders and laced a shot off of the cross-bar which kindly bounced in front of goal for Emily Copeland Dinan, who made the easy tap in for her second tally of the contest and the final marker of the game.

With today’s win, Carleton remains unbeaten in its past 10 games against Ryerson dating back to 2011 season, a run which has resulted in nine wins and only one tie in that time frame.

The Ravens will look to extend their winning streak to three games this Friday, as Carleton welcomes the RMC Palladins to town for an early evening matchup.
