ALMATY, KAZAKHSTAN — On Day 7 of the 2017 FISU Winter Universiade, members of the Carleton Ravens men’s hockey team helped Canada close out the preliminary round with a 5-3 victory over Slovakia.
Carleton’s second-year player Brett Welychka (London, ON) chipped in with two helpers in Canada’s division-clinching win over the Slovaks to close out the round-robin portion of the tournament and finish atop Group B at the 28th Winter Universiade.
Ravens forwards Michael McNamee (Perth, ON) and Ryan Van Stralen (Perth, ON) each contributed one assist in the game, with McNamee’s point coming on Pierre-Olivier Morin’s second-period snipe to give Canada a 4-2 lead. Van Stralen tallied an assist on Slater Doggett’s late third period goal to seal the deal.
