TAPEI CITY, TAIWAN — Recent program graduate Connor Wood has led Canada to a perfect 3-0 start at the 39th Annual William Jones Cup (July 15-23, 2017) after the Canucks defeated Iraq, 99-48, on Day 3 of the competition.
Wood, the 2016-17 Mike Moser Memorial Trophy recipient as the Outstanding Male Basketball Player in U SPORTS, scored a game-high 25 points on a 9-of-16 (6-12 3PT-FG) shooting performance in the one-sided affair.
On Day 2 of the competition, Wood, a two-time OUA First-Team All-Star, buried a team-high 18 points as Canada edged Lithuania, 102-99. The 6-foot-4 shooting guard completed the contest 6-of-10 from downtown to go along with four rebounds and four assists.
Canada also defeated the defending champions from the Philippines, 90-77, on Day 1 of the tournament. Wood finished the first game with nine points on 3-of-7 shooting from beyond the arc.
The Canadians, who sit atop the standings with South Korea after three days of action, take on the Republic of China – Blue team on July 18.
