MARKHAM, ON — Carleton’s men’s golf team competed in its final tune-up ahead of next weekend’s OUA Championships, travelling to the GTA to play in the University of Toronto Men’s and Women’s Invitational at Angus Glen Golf Course.
Staged at Angus Glen’s South Course, the men’s team found mixed success over the two-day event from Friday, October 6 to Saturday, October 7.
On Day 1 of the invitational, third-year Raven Paul Martin (Kingston, ON) enjoyed his best round of the year with a team-best score of 79, which was seven shots off of the lead. Senior Tyler Watson (Guelph, ON) finished second on the team with an 83, as the team completed the first round with an aggregate score of 334.
Carleton showed improvement on Day 2, as three Ravens shot under 80. Chris Hennigar (London, ON) shot a 76 for the team’s top individual score on the day, followed by Ben Kargus‘ (Pakenham, ON) round of 77 and Watson’s 78.
Paul Martin, Chris Hennigar and Tyler Watson ended the event in three-way tie score of 161 over two rounds.
First-year golfer Matt Kartusch (Newcastle, ON) was the Ravens’ fifth team member at the event.
The Ravens finished Day 2 with a team total of 313, an improvement of 21 strokes from the opening round. Overall, Carleton placed 11th out of 12 teams.
Carleton’s women’s golf team did not field any competitors at the tournament.
The 2017 OUA Championships will be held be hosted by the University of Ottawa at Kanata’s Loch March Golf Club from Friday, October 13 to Sunday, October 15.
