KINGSTON, ON — Carleton’s men’s fencing team had a successful weekend at 2018 OUA Championship hosted by RMC, placing third overall, with several Ravens capturing individual medals.

Veteran Zac Zanussi (Red Deer, AB) and rookie Matheson Go (Vancouver, BC) were both named OUA All-Stars, with Zanussi winning gold in the Epee competition and Go earning silver in Sabre.

Zanussi is the first Raven to capture Epee gold since Peter Freill in 1984-85, and only the fourth Desjarlais Trophy winner in the history of Carleton’s fencing program.

In the relay events, Carleton’s Sabre team – comprised of Matheson Go, Mohamed Ghazal (Mississauga, ON), Kuzey Gunesli (Kanata, ON) and Derek Madrid (Los Alamitos, CA) – took home silver.

Carleton’s Sabre relay team finished sixth overall, while the Ravens did not register a Foil relay team.

As a team, the Ravens finished the event with 158 points, just behind RMC’s tally of 160, but well back of the champions, the Toronto Varsity Blues, who ended the weekend with 340 points.
