OTTAWA, ON – The University of Ottawa’s Minto Sports Complex will play host to the inaugural matchup on November 16 at 11 a.m. For the 2019-20 season, the game will shift down the Rideau Canal to the Carleton Ice House.

Using a school day game model, the teams will be able to showcase the rivalry to the next generation of fans. With a capacity of 840 seats, filling the venue with school-aged children will continue to highlight the work that both universities do to get youth in the Ottawa-Gatineau community active in sport.

The addition of the game will round out the Rivalry Series to include the Panda Game, both men’s and women’s Capital Hoops Classic games, and now the men’s and women’s Colonel By Classic matchups.

“We are thrilled to continue building the fun and exciting rivalry games we have with Carleton,” said Sue Hylland, Director of Sports Services at uOttawa. “The matchups between our women’s hockey teams have been very competitive and entertaining and we look forward to shining a well deserved brighter light on the teams going forward.”

This past season, the Gee-Gees were victorious in season series by a 4-1 final tally. However, with two of the games being decided in overtime or a shootout, the rivalry will only continue to multiply in the coming years.

“The addition of a women’s Colonel By Classic game is fantastic chance to keep building our Rivalry Series partnership with uOttawa,” said Jennifer Brenning, Director of Recreation & Athletics at Carleton. “The fans, players, coaches, have really responded and we are excited to see more of the community get involved this year and hopefully for years to come.”

With both teams fighting for positioning in the highly competitive five-team RSEQ, the game will become even more meaningful as they look to climb higher in one of the nation’s most powerful conferences.

The RSEQ women’s hockey regular season will get underway on October 19. The Ravens open up their 2018/19 season on the road against McGill on October 20.
