Former Raven Ryan Van Stralen will be changing his feathers this fall.

Earlier this month the recent men’s hockey alum signed a one year deal with the Bakersfield Condors of the ECHL. Van Stralen says he’s looking forward to his new opportunity.

“It feels great. I’m very fortunate to have an opportunity to play somewhere next year. I had a great experience in Wichita to end this season and I’m excited to see what shakes up this coming season.”

After finishing his Ravens career earlier this spring, he made a quick jump to the ECHL by joining the Wichita Thunder ahead of their playoff run. In his 22 total regular season and playoff games for the Thunder. Van Stralen was nearly a point-a-game forward, potting 11 goals and adding 7 assists. He notes that he needed to adapt to a higher level of play when he got to Wichita.

“The biggest adjustment I found was the speed of the game. Everyone is thinking and reacting just a little bit faster and it makes the game that much more challenging. Obviously the schedule is much more demanding which makes preparation and recovery crucial for your performance on a nightly basis.”

Although the ink is barely dry on his contract, Van Stralen knows that his work for next season needs to start today.

“I want to go into training camp prepared to give myself the best chance to play. I’m very excited for the opportunity and equally excited to see what will come of it.”
