The Carleton Ravens and uOttawa Gee-Gees are doubling down on their hockey rivalry this season.
Both schools announced last week to expand the Colonel By Classic men’s hockey event to include a women’s game on the same day.
Ravens women’s hockey Head Coach Pierre Alain said it means a lot to the players to have a Colonel By Classic game all their own and that it makes the rivalry even more intense.
“It’s always special and exciting when we get to play our home town rivals, but this brings the rivalry between to another level. We’ve witnessed these big games in other sports and now we are involved.”
Captain Leah Scott adds that both teams are excited for a memorable event. “Having a game specifically dedicated to the rivalry will definitely up the ante and make the game that much more meaningful, exciting and fun to play.”
The new addition to the Colonel By Classic event will be a school day game as the puck drops on Friday, November 16tth at 11:00 AM. The early start is a break from the Ravens’ typical game day routine, but Alain says a change is good every once in a while, adding that the team has had fun playing school day games in the past.
“We played a school day game against Concordia a couple of years ago. There was a lot of fan energy and the players were pumped and ready to go.”
Scott says the team will embrace the early puck drop. ”From the meals we eat to the sleep we get, it will definitely change things up for us but we are looking forward to the unique experience.”
Tickets will be made available for the event in September.
