OTTAWA, Ontario – It looked like it might be different for a while.
And then the second quarter started.
The Carleton Ravens men’s basketball team wrapped up their fifth straight win to finish the 2018 Can-Am Shootout undefeated with a 98-55 win over the Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks.
The Ravens and Hawks clogged up the paint and battled to keep the score close throughout the first quarter. Carleton’s offense caught fire quickly after the start of the second and opened up a 30 point lead, putting up 41 points in the frame.
Veteran Stan Mayambo led the way with a game high 21 points and says it was their defense that tightened up after the first.
“We picked it up a little bit, but we still have to be a lot better, a lot more precise. Take care of the ball and defend harder.”
It wasn’t just the usual suspects making their mark. The Ravens bench made major contributions led by first year Aiden Warnholtz and his 17 points.
Mayambo says he isn’t surprised by his team’s well rounded effort.
“Everybody on the team is great. Everybody’s ready to play when they come in. Our team is very deep and anybody can go in and make a great contribution and they did today. And they did across the board. It could be anybody, any game.”
The Ravens will be back at home to kick off the annual House-Laughton tournament on Friday, October 12th against Guelph.
