TORONTO, Ontario – Carleton held off the York Lions 35-20 in their regular season finale on Friday. The result means the Ravens are headed back to the OUA playoffs after finishing the season with a 5-3 record.
The Ravens wasted no time putting the offense to work scoring back to back touchdowns to open up an 18-0 lead following a booming 48 yard field goal by Mike Domagala early in the 1st quarter. The first touchdown came off a missed field goal by York that was returned 93 yards the other way by WR Chad Manchulenko. Four plays later QB Mike Arruda connected with Phil Iloki in the end zone from 13 yards out for the wide receivers 5th score of the year. The second touchdown just 3 minutes later was a perfect 36 yard pass down the ride side from Arruda to WR Khalik Johnson. This marked the first trip into the end zone for Johnson this season.
Carleton took an 18-7 lead into the half, but a big push-back by the home team saw their advantage trimmed to just 3 going into the 4th quarter, 20-17. The Ravens were able to grab the momentum back though, as Arruda hooked up with WR Quinton Soares on a 10 yard touchdown pass midway through the final quarter to extend the lead to 10.
After a York field goal again brought them within one score, Carleton finally but the game to rest with a 75 yard drive in just 1:08 that was capped off with a 3 yard scoring run by RB Nathan Carter. Domagala blasted the ensuing kickoff through the end zone to cement a final score of 35-20.
The Ravens have a bye in the final week of the OUA football schedule, so will have a chance to rest before finding out who their playoff opponent will be.
