ST. CATHARINES, Ontario – The Ravens Rowing team was in St Catharines to compete in the OUA Championship Rowing Regatta. The races were contested over a 2km, Olympic distance 6 lane course with the winners of preliminary races advancing to the finals. The race course was located on Martindale pond, the same venue used for the rowing events at the 2015 Pan-Am games and the home of the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta.
The OUA Championships were schedule to occur over two days with the heats to be held Friday afternoon and finals on Saturday. However, because of a forecast of inclement weather with very high winds which would have made the water un-rowable on Saturday, the championship races were compressed in to one day on Friday. The heats were run in the morning and finals in the afternoon.
The overall performance of the Ravens rowers at this year’s OUA Championships regatta is one of the best ever for the team advancing 8 crews to the finals and earning 4 medals. Additionally, Matthew Fournier, the varsity women’s coach was a nominee for the women’s coach of the year award.
