OTTAWA, Ontario – Carleton defender Elodie Sylvain (Ottawa, ON) came out of the back, scoring twice to give the Ravens a 3-1 victory over Trent Excalibur to continue their undefeated 4-0-1 home record. With the win, the Ravens improve their overall OUA record to 6-3-4.
The Ravens’ lead in the first half did not reflect their performance on the field. With 9 shots by Trent against 5 from the Ravens, the Excalibur were not able to generate quality shots to create damage on Ravens’ goal. By midway through the half, Melissa Gilligan’s (Cornwall, ON) individuality and foot skill opened the score for Carleton as Gilligan went through three defenders inside the box to kick the ball through the goalie’s legs. As Trent continued creating more unfinished chances, the first half ended with a 1-0 lead for Carleton.
Trent’s continuing aggressive offense would eventually grant their team with a well-deserved equalizer when Emma Twohey tied the game 1-1 chipping the ball over Ravens’ Sarah Wicks (St. Jonh’s, NL).
As the second half progressed, Carleton shifted the make-up of the game with three substitutions up front, punishing Trent’s defense as Raven Elodie Sylvain came off the bench to score her first of the day, finding the back of the net on a wonderful strike from the middle of the box for a 2-1. Sylvain would increase the lead for the Ravens once again on Cheyenne Bent’s (Brampton, ON) back cross from the right side for a 3-1 and final score for Carleton.
