OTTAWA, Ontario – Carleton handled the top team in the OUA West on Friday night, winning comfortably against the Brock Badgers 86-46.
Brock kept it close for the first half of the opening quarter, grabbing an early lead and then tying it up again at 7-7. A quick 7-0 run by Carleton followed though, sparked by a Mitch Wood three ball. Rookie guard Aiden Warnholtz put an exclamation mark on the quarter by completing the rare 4 point play after getting fouled on a shot from beyond the arc.
The 2nd quarter was a defensive masterclass, as the Ravens allowed just 5 points and kept the Badgers scoreless in the final 6 minutes. The offense found their rhythm as well, with 4th year forward TJ Lall pouring in 11 of what would be 27 points scored for Carleton during the quarter. Lall’s production was highlighted by a crowd pleasing dunk, and a drained three with 6 seconds left to give his team a solid 48-18 lead at halftime.
With the game well in hand, the Ravens were able to give healthy minutes to their entire rotation in the 2nd half. 3rd year forward Eddie Ekiyor took the greatest advantage of the situation, scoring 10 points on 4 of 6 shooting. The defense went back to work in the final quarter, allowing just 6 points for their second single digit quarter of the game. Overall Carleton held Brock to just 16 of 55 shooting (29%) and a mere 4 of 22 from beyond the three point line (18%). This marked the second game in a row the Ravens have held their opponent under 50 points, and 3rd time this season.
Lall finished with a game high 18 points and 7 rebounds. 5 of these came on the offensive end, which was a big help in boosting his scoring total. Guard Munis Tutu was right behind his teammate with 16 points, and facilitated a good chunk of the team’s scoring with a game high 7 assists.
