WINDSOR, Ontario – It’s back to back road wins for the Ravens after Carleton turned in another good performance in Windsor on Saturday night to down the Lancers 70-54.
It took a few minutes for Carleton to get on the board after tip off, but a Nicole Gilmore layup would set the Ravens off on a 17-4 run in the opening frame to see them lead 19-10 after one. Gilmore would add two more baskets for a game high 6 points in the first 10 minutes.
Carleton made their first three pointer early in the 2nd quarter, courtesy of a shot by guard Cynthia Dupont, to boost their lead to 10. This seemed to wake up the home team however, as Windsor proceeded to go on a 13-3 run to work themselves within one possession of the Ravens. 4th year forward Alyssa Cerino was sure to re-establish some distance before the half was out, knocking back a pair of late shots to put Carleton up 32-25 at the break.
Gilmore and Cerino stayed hot upon returning to the court, sinking an early shot each to maintain the Ravens lead. Windsor stubbornly hung around in the opening minutes, but would succumb to the hot Ravens shooting midway through the quarter. A 10-0 run which included baskets by four different Carleton players shot the lead up to 17, and having set the fire the Ravens would close the quarter out with a 54-40 lead.
Windsor got back within single digits early in the 4th quarter, but the Ravens were able to put the game away thanks to their proficiency from the free throw line. After making just 1 free throw in the first half, Carleton knocked back 13 in the final 20 minutes, including 8 in the 4th quarter. Cerino was a perfect 6 for 6 herself on these shots in the final quarter as she finished with a game high 20 points.
While the three ball wasn’t falling for the Ravens, they more than made up for it by hitting 14 of 17 free throws and claiming a 50.9 field goal percentage on 27 of 53 shots. Their defense set to work denying the long ball as Windsor shot just 3 of 24 from beyond the arc. Gilmore and Dupont shared the game high rebound mark with 7 each, with Gilmore also leading the way in steals with 3. Madison Reid was the setup woman with a game high 4 assists.
