TORONTO, Ontario – The Ottawa Gee-Gees and Carleton Ravens booked their tickets to the semifinals on Day 1 of the 2018 NCWP championships (Nov. 30) at the University of Toronto’s Varsity Pool.
Ottawa defeated the Guelph Gryphons 13-4, while the Carleton Ravens topped the McMaster Marauders 12-2 in the second quarter-final of the night. The Gee-Gees will take on the No. 2 Queen’s Gaels in Saturday’s first semifinal at 12:30 p.m., while the Ravens will battle the host and No. 1 seed Toronto Varsity Blues in the second semifinal at 1:45 p.m.
Guelph and McMaster will square off in the consolation final at 6 p.m., tomorrow night.
Quarter-Final #1: Ottawa 13, Guelph 4
The Gee-Gees got out to a 5-0 lead after the first quarter to put the game out of reach for the Gryphons. Erin Woods led Ottawa with five goals, while Danielle Hirsh and Sophie Bresolin each scored hat tricks. Stefanie Rivet-Martin and Alice Donaldson added single tallies in the victory.
Paige Alliston led the Gryphons with three goals of her own, with Tanisha Merkley scoring once in the loss.
Quarter-Final #2: Carleton 12, McMaster 2
Carleton opened the game with four straight goals and didn’t look back from there. Rachel Bertoia and Branka Trajkovik led the Ravens with four goals apiece, while Claire Allerton, Rachel Howes, Meggie Chamandy and Alicia Morewood each scored once in the win.
Haley McComb scored both of the Marauders goals in the loss.
