SUDBURY, Ontario – It was Gabriel Bitar who scored the decisive goal on a deflected free kick to lead the Carleton Ravens to a 1-0 win over the Laurentian Voyageurs on Saturday afternoon.
Although the first half ended in a 0-0 tie, it was the Ravens who dictated run of play with a 5-0 advantage in shots on goal.
“We didn’t get frustrated, we understood that we were keeping possession and playing some good stuff,” said Ravens Head Coach Kwesi Loney. “It was just a matter of the ball going in the net for us.”
The second half played out in a very similar fashion, with the Ravens ending the game with 11 shots on goal to the Voyageurs’ three. But it took a 90th minute goal from Bitar off a deflected free kick to beat Voyageurs Goalkeeper Adam Scanlon for the lone tally of the game.
Bitar has now scored three goals in three games.
“The fact that we’ve taken nine points in the last three games, means we’re doing the right things and playing well,” added Loney. “We just need to execute better and get our timing right.”
The Ravens will continue their Northern road trip on Sunday, September 7th as they take on the Nipissing Lakers at 2:15pm.
