OSHAWA, Ontario – The Ravens survived an early scare to top the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks 2-1 on a wet Sunday afternoon.
The Ridgebacks jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the 11th minute through a goal by Forward Fadi Salback. The lead wouldn’t last long however, as Jimi Aribido would equalize for the Ravens in the 23rd minute.
The Ravens would take the lead just six minutes before halftime through 2018 top-scorer Gabriel Bitar, who notched his first goal of the new season.
Scoring opportunities were hard to come by in the match, as the teams combined for a total 17 shots, with only six ending up on target. The second half would go scoreless, resulting in a 2-1 victory for the Ravens.
“Ontario Tech is an organized team, and playing two games in two days is tough,” said Head Coach Kwesi Loney. “We were a little bit sluggish at the start, but you don’t need too many opportunities if you score the ones you do create.”
The Ravens were forced to field a rotated squad after opening their season against Trent just a day earlier.
“We trust in each other’s ability so when we call upon other players, we know that they can perform,” said Loney.
“We’ll work out some of the kinks, watch some more video where we had lapses and get ready for next weekend.”
The Ravens will be back on the road next weekend, starting off with a match against the Laurentian Voyageurs on Saturday, September 7th at 1:00pm.
