OTTAWA, Ontario – The Carleton Ravens had five different goal scorers on Sunday afternoon as they cruised past the RMC Paladins by a final score of 7-0.
Jimi Aribido bagged a hat-trick for the Ravens, while Nikola Erak, Daniel Assaf, Kelly Lowry and Jeremy Aweya each had a goal of their own. The Ravens fielded a side missing a handful of first-choice players after a physical match against Queen’s just a day earlier.
“I was happy to see our guys able to get into the match today and showcase their abilities,” said Ravens Head Coach Kwesi Loney. “It just shows the commitment our guys have to playing at the highest level, coming in week in and week out [and] making my team selections very difficult.”
Aribido started the scoring in the 11th minute after Kevin Kaba played a low cross into the box from the left side. Erak slid in to get the ball on target, which deflected off Aribido and in.
“Since preseason I’ve been in and out with injury so it’s a good feeling to be back on the field and playing again,” said Aribido.
Erak would double the lead just two minutes later after getting on the end of another Kaba cross and guiding the header into the net.
Kaba would create another chance before half as he dribbled his way into the Paladins box, getting a shot off which was blocked by a defender. The ball fell for Assaf, who placed it underneath the out-of-position goalkeeper into the corner of the net.
The Ravens would score their fourth goal of the half through Aribido after he found himself on the end of a Scott Mazzotta cross. Aribido flicked the ball up to himself and powered the volley into the net.
Aribido would complete his hat-trick in the 66th minute after a strike from just inside 25 yards. Aribido ran at the defenders after picking up the ball, cut to his right side and picked out the bottom-left corner.
“I was just happy to see him get into the game healthy and contributing the way he did today,” said Loney of Aribido. “Hopefully this sparks him to get a few more [goals] moving forward because we could definitely use that.”
Lowry and Aweya buried their goals in the final 15 minutes of the match as the Ravens played their way to win number eight of the season.
“I think we’re focused; we all know where we should be and where we want to be as a team.
Every training session we come in and we’re focused on trying to execute [during] every single game. That doesn’t change for us, we take each game as one and we keep going from there,” added Aribido.
The Carleton Ravens will play back-to-back home games next weekend, starting with a match against the Trent Excalibur on Saturday, September 28th at 6pm at MNP Park.
