OTTAWA, Ontario – The Carleton Ravens women’s rugby team came up short to the visiting Sherbrooke Vert et Or as they were defeated 28-17.
“I think we made it hard on ourselves with the mistakes we made early on in the game. We took a few untimely penalties, ill disciplined at times,” Ravens head coach Patrick Thompson said following the win.
“If we want to compete at this level, we need to make sure that we eliminate those mistakes,” he added.
The Vert et Or would jump out to a timely 21-7 lead at halftime, as the game saw tries from Sherbrooke’s Marie-Eve Devillers-Matte, Marie-Pier Fauteaux, and Ravens flanker Malak Saif El Nasr.
During the second half of play, Maureen Foran and Deleshia Dixon would add tries for the Ravens, as Devillers-Matte would score one more try for Sherbrooke.
To round out the scoring, Ravens scrum half Roberta Drummond would be successful on one of her conversion kicks, while her counterpart on the Vert et Or, Fauteaux, would connect four for four on all her conversion kicks.
As the Ravens head into their third game of the season, the team will look to notch their first win as they get set to face off against the University of Ottawa Gee-Gees on Sept. 13.
“We know we have to peak at the right time. We still have a few weeks of rugby left, so, our defense has gotten better week to week so we’re happy about that,” Thompson said.
“There are a few things that we need to change on attack, is to get the ball moving more effectively. We’re getting better every day, and this was a much better performance than we saw last week, so we’re quite happy overall, and we’ll have a good week of training and be ready for Friday,” he added.
