OTTAWA, Ontario – The Carleton Ravens men’s basketball team finished off the House-Laughton tournament with a close 81-75 win over the visiting Toronto Varsity Blues.
Both teams were undefeated heading into the tournament’s final game, and the action did not disappoint. The two sides were neck and neck throughout the entire first half, with the Ravens going 15-34 from the floor through the first 2 quarters, only slightly outdone by the Blues who shot nearly 50% at 12-25.
Neither team was able to open up a lead bigger than a single possession, and the game went into the half tied 39-39.
The pace continued after the halftime break, with both sides trading points, preventing each other from going on any major runs.
It took until late in the 4th quarter for the gap between the two teams on the scoreboard reached more than 3 points, when the Ravens were able to extend their lead to 5 points. With the Varsity Blues threatening to close the gap, Ravens guard Lloyd Pandi came up with a timely block in the post to preserve their advantage. From there, the Ravens were able to shut down the Blues’ offence and seal the victory.
