OTTAWA, Ontario – As the annual House-Laughton pre-season tournament continued in the Ravens’ Nest on Saturday night, Carleton’s men’s basketball team stayed undefeated with a 107-53 win over the Bishop’s Gaiters.

After head coach Taffe Charles said that he wanted his starting unit to play better after the previous night’s victory, the starters got off to a brilliant start.  They began the game on an 18-0 run, spurred by strong outside shooting from 5th year star Yasiin Joseph as well as strong post play from 1st year Lloyd Pandi.

Asked about the hot start, Joseph said that “we just came out with fire!  Last game we thought we didn’t play that well, and we came out gunning”.  Bishop’s was able to bounce back from Carleton’s opening punch, and fought their way back into the game as the first came to an end.  The game stabilized in the second, as the Ravens’ lead held at around 10 points, and they finished the 1st half up 55 – 41.

In the 2nd half, the Ravens turned their defensive intensity up to 11, and held Bishop’s to just 12 points in the entire 2nd half.  The defensive effort led to transition opportunities and easier offensive flow for the Ravens.  4th year guard Isiah Osborne took advantage of the defensive stops to throw down some massive dunks in transition, and 2nd year forward Biniam Ghebrekidan’s strong rebounding lead to some great opportunities for Carleton.

The Ravens outscored Bishop’s 52 – 12 in the second half for a final score of 107 – 53, the second straight game in which they scored 107 points.   When asked about the 2nd half, Joseph pointed out that “the first half, we weren’t all that great defensively, and we came together as a group and we knew we had to shut down their team”.

The Ravens will play their final game of the tournament on Sunday against the University of Toronto, the only other undefeated team left in the tournament. Tip-off at the Ravens’ Nest is at 2pm.
