WBB | New coaching staff lead Ravens into 2019-20

OTTAWA, Ontario – The University is pleased to announce that Brian Cheng has accepted the interim Head Coaching position for the women’s basketball program.  Brian was an Assistant Coach (1996-2001) and then Head Coach of the University of Victoria (2001-2010).  From 2011-2019, Brian was the Head Coach of the Western University Women’s Basketball program.  Brian has a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Victoria (1993) and is a graduate of the National Coaching Institute (Level 4 Certification) as a Master Coach (1999).

Brian has accepted the interim role to allow time for the new coach to transition to Ottawa in the Spring of 2020. The University will be making a further announcement at that time.


Assistant Coaches

Michelle Abella

A former Academic All Canadian basketball player from Sheridan College with a diploma for Pharmacy Technician, Michelle has been coaching the Ontario Elite Development team from 2013 to present, including the U15/U14 Girls Provincial team as assistant coach and the 2017 Gold Medalist at the Canadian National Championship, silver medalist in 2016.   Michelle has also coached the Blessed Sacrament Yellow Jackets JUEL and JUEL teams.  She has her NCCP Certification Level 2 Train to Train.

Dean Petridis

A former Raven from 1997 to 2001.  Dean has coached both high school and club basketball in the Ottawa area for almost 20 years at various levels both womens and mens.  Teams included Ashbury Senior boys and girls, Sir Robert Borden boys, Ottawa Guardsmen, Barrhaven Blue Devils and Team Ontario boys Under 17. Highlights included city championships and OFSSA gold with Ashbury, Provincial Championships with Ottawa Guardsmen, and National Championship with team Ontario

Dean was an Assistant Coach with the Men’s Ravens basketball program 2005 to 2019.

Eric Parthenais

Eric is entering his fifth season assisting with the women’s basketball team.   Eric was part of the 2018 U Sports women’s basketball championship coaching staff.

Abeer Farhat

Abeer Farhat will be coaching with the Ravens for the first time this season.  She is a Carleton Ravens alumnus who was a member of the women’s basketball team from 2013-2017.
