OTTAWA, Ontario – The Carleton Ravens captured their first win of the annual McKeen Metro Glebe tournament on Friday night, defeating the UQAM Citadins 83-58.
The Ravens got off to a quick start in the first quarter, going on a 10-0 scoring run after allowing the first basket of the game. Madison Reid drove the offense, scoring 12 of the Ravens’ 16 points in the quarter.
“We came in knowing our sets and we’re really confident with that. We’ve gone over so many things since we played Drury [University] so we just came in confident, I think it really helped,” said Reid.
The second quarter started similarly for the Ravens, on a 10-0 scoring run. Marlee Ball capped the run with a three-pointer, forcing the Citadins to call a timeout after being down 14 points just over three minutes into the quarter. Reid continued to make her shots, accounting for 25 of the Ravens’ 39 points at half time, including five made three pointers.
“I think we passed the ball really well through their zone, there were definitely holes so we took it to them,” added Reid.
The Ravens continued to press in the third quarter, grabbing their first 20-point lead before the heading into the break up 60-45. The defense held tight in the fourth quarter, limiting the Citadins to 13 points en route to their first win of the tournament.
“We’re giving good effort [and] getting more chemistry. Honestly what I see in practice is we got a long way to go,” said Ravens Interim Head Coach Brian Cheng.
The Ravens will play their second game of the tournament against the Bishop’s Gaiters on Saturday, October 5th at 4pm at the Ravens’ Nest.
