Q: Why did you decide to attend Carleton?

Growing up in Ottawa, I know many people who have attended Carleton and I’ve heard many good things about the university.  As well, sports have a great reputation and seem to be constantly improving. The soccer team under Coach Kwesi has already had many successes; and he has assembled talented and gritty players with whom I would be honoured to be teammates. When I first trained with the team, I really liked the energy and had a strong feeling that this is where I wanted to play.

Q: What part about playing for the Ravens soccer team are you most looking forward to?

I am most looking forward to scoring goals, combining with team mates, and playing my part in helping the team win national championships. I’m looking forward to improving in any areas of my game that can use work, and being able to call myself a Raven.

Q: How did you get started in soccer?

I was always interested in soccer and have played since I was very young. Although, I fell in love with the game in 2010 when I sat on the couch for hours on end watching the World Cup, and I’ll always remember playing street soccer with kids in villages in Madagascar.

Q: What is your style of play?

I am a goal scorer. I am always trying to go to goal and create chances to put the ball in the back of the net. I like to use my intelligence and make creative runs in behind to get to goal. I have worked a lot on my ball control which has improved my ability to hold the ball up with a defender on my back and either turn and take defenders on, or make decisive combination plays with my teammates. I also shoot with both feet, so the opposition never knows which way I’ll attack.

Q: Is there a professional soccer player that you model your game after?

When I play, I try to model myself after Robert Lewandowski. He fits the definition of a goal scorer. He is fearless going to goal, always seeming to find a way to beat defenders and put the ball in the net.

Q: Describe your strengths and some areas for improvement.

My strengths are finishing, making decisive runs, dribbling in tight spaces, and pressing the oppositions back line. Some areas I think I can improve on are winning balls in the air and 1v1 defending.

Q: Which academic program will you be studying and why is that of interest to you?

I have not decided yet but I am interested in the arts, sciences and entrepreneurship.

Q: What extra-curricular activities do you enjoy?

I enjoy playing other sports such as basketball and hockey. As well, I really like to work out in the gym.

Welcome to the Bird Gang, Ronan!
