Name: Andrew Bitar
Hometown: Ottawa, Ontario
High School: Franco-Cite
Soccer Club: Ottawa Fiorentina
Favourite National team: Brazil
Favourite Club team: Barcelona
Q: Why did you decide to attend Carleton?
I chose Carleton simply because I love soccer. Going to Carleton gave me an opportunity to pursue my studies while playing soccer at the highest level possible.
Q: What part about playing for the Ravens soccer team are you most looking forward to?
I can’t wait to be in that competitive environment again. To improve and learn off others. On top of all this, I can’t wait to face the best teams in Canada at nationals.
Q: How did you get started in soccer?
My mom was able to get rid of me for eight hours of the day through school and she thought, why not another two.
Q: What is your style of play?
Very attacking mindset. I love to bring the ball up, play that nice long ball and tend to almost never play the ball back.
Q: Is there a professional soccer player that you model your game after?
As a kid, my brothers loved watching the brazilians play. Even though it’s a little outdated, I like to model my game after Ronaldinho.
Q: Describe your strengths and some areas for improvement:
As a soccer player I have a long way to go. My biggest weakness is judging to quickly. I often “cheat” defensively which leads to a lot of regret, it’s a bad gamble. As for my biggest strength would be my creativity. In situations I tend to use moves that might not be best for the situation but somehow works.
Q: Which academic program will you be studying and why is that of interest to you?
I will be going into the criminology and criminal justice program with a concentration in law. As a kid and even now, crime tv shows/movies were always my favorite. There’s a joy that I find in it that isn’t common.
Q: What extra-curricular activities do you enjoy?
I enjoy many activities and I wish there were more hours in the day to do them. My top three have to be long bike rides on a nice windy night, watching a variety of tv shows like crime, sitcoms and anime. Most of all, I enjoy serving my Lord as a youth leader at my church.
