OTTAWA, Ontario — The Carleton Ravens Nordic ski team is pleased to announce Anneke Winegarden as the team’s new Head Coach.

Winegarden joins the Ravens as a NCCP Competition Development Certified Nordic ski coach and brings extensive training as an exercise physiologist to the position. Her educational background is in science with a bachelor’s degree in human kinetics from the University of Ottawa and a master’s degree in exercise physiology from the University of Calgary. She says her background gives her a deep understanding of what high level skiers go through.

“My education and experience give me a unique perspective on the demands of varsity skiers. Working together with the athletes, we will be able to improve each athlete’s experience by designing targeted training plans that are balanced with the demands of their academic programs.

Winegarden is familiar with the local Nordic ski community, having served as a Racing Performance Coach at the Nakkertok Ski Club for several years until 2018. She will take over a Ravens team that swept the OUA podium last season, taking home men’s and women’s team OUA banners in 2019 along with several All-Star awards.

Despite the training restrictions that COVID-19 has brought, Winegarden is excited for the opportunity to work with a talented group of athletes.

“The Ravens have a lot of momentum already with their Nordic skiing program. I’m looking forward to working with the team to continue to build on their current success.”
