The Carleton Ravens women’s golf team participated in the OUA Championships this week at the Cambridge Golf Club, finishing 4th out of 10 teams. The Ravens team consisting of Samantha Coates, Shiela McKeen, Emily Boyko and Eva Johnston-Iafelice, battled through two days of tough, windy and cool conditions for Carleton’s best ever OUA golf team result.
The Toronto Varsity Blues repeated their 1st place finish from last year, narrowly defeating the Waterloo Warriors by 1 stroke. The Western Mustangs rounded out the top 3, with a 2 day team total of 495, 16 shots behind Toronto (479) and 15 behind Waterloo (480). Devon Rizzo from Waterloo was the individual champion shooting impressive rounds of 73-74 (147) for a 7 shot victory.
Samantha Coates led the Carleton effort with rounds of 82-77 (159) finishing T5 individually. Sheila McKeen (162) was 8th, Eva Iafelice (189) was 27th and Emily Boyko (196) was 31st. Coach Gail Blake said, “the girls played well under the conditions and didn’t give up.” Coates and McKeen were named as second team All-Stars for their top 10 performances.
The 4th place result qualifies the Carleton Women for the Canadian Championships to be played next spring in Winnipeg. Go Ravens!
