RAVENS’ NEST, Ottawa – The Carleton Ravens Men’s Basketball team were firing on all cylinders tonight in a huge 113-51 blowout win over the South Dakota State Jackrabbits. They have now started off the Can-Am Shootout with three straight wins – two of which coming against teams that were in the NCAA tournament last season.
The Ravens came out guns blazing and couldn’t seem to miss in the first half. They outscored the Jackrabbits 62-21 in the first two quarters. South Dakota State’s star, Mike Daum who has drawn NBA interest, was shut down early. It was obvious the Ravens had a game plan to defend him, “If you saw any of his games last year, he was really good, he can shoot the ball from anywhere. We focused on our team defense today and didn’t give him any easy shots – I think that worked out well today”, Eddie Ekiyor explained. Daum had just 8 points off 3-10 shooting.
Six Ravens finished with double-digit points tonight. Munis Tutu led the way once again with 18 points in just 17 minutes. They shot 60% from the floor as a team, including 15 trey’s. Mitch Wood had four of those three-pointers for 14 points.
In the second half, the starting unit was able to get some rest on the bench. During most of that time they were the loudest people in the gym. They were extremely vocal in coaching the younger players throughout the half as they got some valuable playing time. It just goes to show how Carleton has become the basketball program it is today.
Tomorrow night the Jackrabbits face-off against uOttawa Gee-Gees and the return to the Ravens’ Nest Sunday at 1:00pm. “We know they’re going to be coming out tough after this game. We’re going to come out ready to fight and see what happens.” Says Marcus Anderson. Surely the Jackrabbits will be back with a vengeance and try to redeem themselves from this 62-point loss.
