Mitch Porowski Top Rookie

Mitch Porowski of Ottawa becomes the first major award winner from Carleton University since the Ravens entered OUA hockey in 2007, as he was named OUA East Rookie of the Year. Porowski collected 19 goals and 19 assists which was top among east division rookies, 14 points ahead of second place. His 38 points ranked the arts student sixth overall in the OUA. For his efforts, Porowski was also named an OUA East First Team All-Star and a member of the East’s All-Rookie Team.

Ravens Head Coach Marty Johnston isn’t surprised to see the recognition for Porowski. “Mitch has been an outstanding player for us all year.  The combination of size, skill and tenacity has made him difficult for opposing teams to deal with.  Mitch arrived to camp in great shape with a great attitude and has been a consistent performer for us all year.  We are very happy that Mitch has been recognized as Rookie of the Year and First Team All-Star.”

The OUA East Second All-Star team consists of two Carleton  teammates, Matt Stanisz and Jeff Hayes . Hayes and Stanisz finished second and third respectively in scoring for the Carleton Ravens.

Hayes, a third year forward from Ottawa, accounted for 33 points on a balanced 17 goals and 16 assists. “Jeff has elevated his game this year to a new level.  His impact on our program has been significant in his three years on campus.  His work ethic and speed have made him a dangerous threat offensively while also being the top forward defensively with a plus/minus of +14 in the regular season” said coach Johnston.

Johnston was also very pleased with second-year defenceman Matt Stanisz who had six goals and 21 assists which was third in points by a defenceman in the OUA. “Matt Stanisz has consistently led the way on our defensive unit this year.  His offensive output and contribution on the power play have been outstanding. He finished third in team scoring.  Matt also led the Ravens with a plus/minus of +25 with the next closest Raven at +14.”
