The Carleton Ravens scored three first period goals on route to a 7-2 victory Wednesday night versus the RMC Paladins in Kingston. Mike McNamee led the charge scoring two goals and adding two assists. The win puts the Ravens at 2-0 for the 2014-2015 regular season.
Max Dumond, Damian Cross, Jeff Hayes, Chet Bining and Corey Durocher also added single tallies for Carleton. For Dumond and Binning, it was their first career CIS goal.
The Ravens dominated the game early, creating chances off the rush. They were rewarded when McNamee ripped a powerplay shot past Evan Deviller, after an RMC turnover. Later in the period, the Ravens struck again scoring two goals in a 52 second span. First, Dumond finished off a pretty passing play from Brock Battachio to put the Ravens up 2-0. Shortly after, Damian Cross scored off of a won faceoff, extending the lead to three.
McNamee scored early again in the second period off a nice deflection from a Battochio point shot. RMC countered late with John Saunders scoring off a rebound making it a 4-1 game. The third period saw the Ravens put the contest out of reach. Hayes and Durocher scored off odd-man rushes and Binning found the back of the net during a goal-mouth scramble. RMC’s Chris Smerek scored late on a powerplay to make it 7-2.
Carleton outshot the Paladins 55-14 on the night, and finished 1-for-6 on the powerplay. Francis Dupuis earned the win between the pipes.
The win kicks-off a three game stretch of road contests for the Ravens. On Friday night they will be in Montreal to take on the Concordia Stingers at 7:30pm. On Saturday, Carleton will travel to Three Rivers for a matinee versus the UQTR Patriots at 2pm. In a rare scheduling occurrence, the Ravens will be the visiting team for three of their opponents’ first home game.
Carleton will return back home to the Carleton Ice House for a game on Friday, October 17th against the UOIT Ridgebacks.
