Carleton once again went head-to-head with the University of Ottawa on September 14th at the historic PD Ross Regatta. In a boat consisting of the top four female and top four male athletes, as voted by their team mates, the Ravens raced down the Rideau Canal in hopes of defending last year’s win.
This year’s boat held rookies Ian Smith and Annie Curie, as well as returning athletes Luke Teeft, Charles-Li Benard, Matthew Fournier, Lauren Hogan, Megan Haley, and Victoria Ozimkowski. Matt Noel was coxswain of the boat for his fourth and final race at PD Ross.
The varsity race was preluded by an alumni race with a boat of graduated athletes from each school. Carleton’s alumni Ravens blasted through the Gee-Gee’s and won with open space between the boats. Afterwards, in a tight race, the University of Ottawa’s varsity boat pulled ahead at the finish and took back the PD Ross cup.
This race is held every year as a season opener for the Ravens and the Gee-Gees to challenge one another in friendly competition.
