Top of the class: Elizabeth Roach

Fifth-year guard Elizabeth Roach was a standout for the Ravens women’s basketball team, culminating in an OUA East player of the year award for her play.

Roach led her team with 14.7 points per game and had 109 assists, almost 70 more than any other players in the league. She led the team to a 16-6 record, winning the OUA East.

Lindsay Shotbolt, a second-year forward on the Ravens, said she learned a lot from Roach.

“She had an unbelievable season,” Shotbolt said. “I’ve known her since I came on the team in first year, and she’s been a huge mentor of mine.”

Shotbolt praised Roach’s work ethic and said they are also close friends off the court. She said she has looked up to Roach over the past two years and will continue to do so even now that she has graduated.

Not only was she a close personal mentor, but Shotbolt said she was an important leader for the entire team. Now that she has moved on the older players will have to follow her method.

“Now that she’s gone, there’s three of us that are the oldest ones on the team,” Shotbolt said. “So we’re kind of just taking in what she taught us over the cours
