Ravens 2     Martlets 6

The top ranked McGill Martlets came to the Carleton Ice House and proved worthy of their ranking by beating the Carleton Ravens 6-2 on Saturday afternoon.

Despite the score, Ravens goaltender, Eri Kiribuchi, was a superstar in net, stopping 38 shots from the powerhouse Martlets.

The Martlets  came ready to play, keeping the play in the Ravens end for most of the period. The Martlets capitalized on the Ravens penalty trouble, opening the scoring with a power play goal by Leslie Oles. The Martlets continued to dominate play with four additional unanswered goals by Gabrielle Davidson (2), Brittney Fouracres and Kelsey Moffatt, making it 5-0 at the end of the 2nd period.

The Ravens were finally able to make the most of Martlet penalties in the 3rd period, with both Victoria Gouge and Julie Vaillancourt scoring powerplay goals. Although the Ravens kept the pressure on the Martlets throughout the third period, McGill’s Leslie Oles added her second goal of the game and sealing the victory for her team.

After the game, Raven’s vetran defendor, Erin Beaver acknowledged their struggles in the game, but remains positive about their future games against the Martlets.

“We started off strong, however  McGill was able to capitalize on their chances on the power play as we took too many penalties. We had a strong 3rd  and we know we can compete against them.”

Next the Ravens visit Montreal to take on the Concordia Stingers Sunday at 2pm.
