OTTAWA - The Carleton Ravens women's hockey team are proud to announce the commitment of local forward Abbey Byrne. Byrne, of Ottawa, is currently the leading goal scorer for the Ottawa Junior Lady 67's.
With 12 points in 20 games, Byrne will look to help bolster the Ravens' young forward group. An offensive forward, Byrne is a self-described playmaker who will bring creativity and flair to the Ravens attack.
"I decided on Carleton because I fell in love with the campus and the atmosphere on campus." As a local player, Byrne admits she looks forward to continuing her career close to home. "There are multiple advantages including that it is close to home, I will be able to have my biggest support system through the next step of my athletic and academic career."
Byrne's family first mentality immediately helped her to feel connected to the team at Carleton. "During my official visit, I was able to join the girls in the dressing room and on the ice, I noticed a team that is also a family with a positive atmosphere and that was a major factor in me choosing to attend Carleton."
Byrne will enter Carleton in a Bachelor of Arts and will spend her first year undeclared as she explores her interests in criminal justice, psychology, sociology and forensics.
