Aylmer, Ont. - In the final weekend of OUA competition the Carleton Ravens Figure Skating team has brought home a handful of hardware. During the two day competition hosted by McMaster University, the Ravens collected four medals - one gold and three silver - and the 2022 Coach of the Year Award.
The Ravens kicked off the two day competition with a pair of silver medals. Bridget Le Donne and Hannah Whitley placed second in Rhythm Dance while David Birinberg, Robyn Hoogendam, Bridget Le Donne and Hannah Whitley also collected silver medals in the Dance Fours.
Whitley and Birinberg weren't finished, as they would return to the ice on day two of the competition and continue to impress. Whitley was awarded gold in Solo Dance, for her third medal of the championship, while Birinberg collected their second silver in the Men’s Freeskate.
To top off a fantastic event, Ravens head coach Laura Kilpatrick was honoured with the OUA Coach of the Year, making her the third Ravens coach this season to win their sports honour.
For the sixth straight season, the Toronto Varsity Blues captured the OUA figure skating title during the two-day event hosted by the McMaster Marauders at the East Elgin Community Centre.
The Varsity Blues separated themselves from the pack, picking up the most gold medals with five.
The Western Mustangs earned the overall silver medal, highlighted by two gold medals. Meanwhile, the host Marauders, picked up three gold medals to finish third overall.
In a unanimous decision, the Spirit Award, given to the team that exemplifies high energy, teamwork, and spirit, was awarded to the Brock Badgers.
The Coach of the Year award, voted on by the coaches, was given to Carleton Ravens’ Laura Kilpatrick.
