Burlington, Ont. - Carleton Ravens guard Tatyanna Burke is the seventh player in program history to be named Defensive Player of the Year. The second-year guard from Winona, Ontario, joins recent winners Elizabeth Leblanc and Nicole Gilmore.
In addition to her East Division Defensive Player of the Year honours, Burke was also named to the OUA East Second-Team All-Stars, joining First-Team All-Star Kali Pocrnic and All-Rookie Team member Teresa Donato.
A 5'11" guard, Tatyanna Burke has dominated on the defensive side of the ball for the Ravens this season. In 14 games, Burke is fourth in the OUA in rebounds per game (9.4), fourth in offensive rebounds (47), sixth in blocks (13) and twelfth in steals (25) despite having taken only 27 founds (206th).
Burke recorded double-digit rebounds six times including a season-high 16 in November against York. In addition to her defensive play, Burke turned three of those double-digit rebound nights into double-doubles.
A threat away from the rim, Burke had eight multi-steal nights including a season-high 5 on February 11th at Laurentian. What's more, Burke accomplished her impressive defensive numbers while only playing over 30 minutes six times as she helped the Ravens to a 10-4 finish.
Tatyanna Burke’s 37-minute performance against the uOttawa Gee-Gees in the Capital Hoops Classic was one to be remembered. Burke went almost wire-to-wire scoring 15 points and collecting 7 rebounds, including 5 on the defensive side of the ball. To make matters worse for the Gee-Gees, Burke shot an impressive 9 for 10 from the charity stripe.
Named to the OUA East First-Team All-Stars, Kali Pocrnic continues to collect OUA honours. After being named to the All-Rookie team in 2019-2020, the Oakville guard was a force for the Ravens, was seventh in the OUA with 14.6 points per game while being third in the league with 53 assists and fifth in three-point percentage with 38.0% shooting from downtown.
Ottawa guard Teresa Donato has been named to the OUA All-Rookie Team. In 13 games, Donato recorded 18 assists and 10 steals while averaging 4.5 points per game while coming off the bench in 9 of her 13 appearances. Donato follows Pocrnic and Burke who both earned All-Rookie honours in 2019-2020.
