OTTAWA - After recording one of the most impressive offensive seasons in program history, Ravens rugby back Vanessa Chiappetta has been awarded the Ruth Coe Memorial Award as women's athlete of the year. The Rigaud, Quebec, product turned in the fifth highest-scoring season in program history recording 44 points including seven tries.
The Ruth Coe Memorial Award is awarded for the demonstration of outstanding athletic ability during the current year in Carleton's interuniversity program.
Chiappetta joins Natasha Smith as the only two rugby players in the program's ten-year history to earn the award.
Named MVP in three of the Ravens six regular season games, Chiappetta was the RSEQ's Student-Athlete of the Month in October before adding one try and one penalty during the Ravens' playoff run to the teams first RSEQ bronze medal. Chiappetta was also named Carleton's BioSteel Athlete of the Week twice in 2021.
Among her impressive accomplishments in 2021, she recorded four tries and was named game MVP as the Ravens set a program record with an 85-point victory over the McGill Martlets at the Ravens' Perch on September 25. In two seasons with the Ravens, Chiappetta has recorded 49 points in 12 games.
