The Carleton Ravens open weekend one of the 2022 Can-Am Shootout with a pair of matchups against NCAA division one opponents.
In the 2022 Can-Am Shootout opening game, the Ravens will host the Northeastern Huskies. Meeting for the fourth time, Carleton is 3-0 against Northeastern having last played the Huskies in 2017.
Coming off their 16th national championship the Ravens are led by returning guards Aiden Warnholtz (Kanata, Ont.) and Connor Vreeken (Kingston, Ont.). The pair of sharpshooters will look to drive the pace and offence for a young Ravens team which also features returning players Wazir Latiff, Elliot Bailey and Grant Shephard.
The Huskies enter the Ravens’ Nest led by Boucherville, Quebec’s Jahmyl Telfort who led the team with 12.6 points per game in 2021-22. Telfort and senior Chris Doherty play a significant role in coach Bill Coen’s roster which includes three other Canadians. Joining Telfort South of the border are Alexander Nwagha (Milton, Ont.), Coleman Stucke (Oakville, Ont.) and To Randriasalama (Montreal, Que.).
After a day of rest on Sunday, the Ravens will be back in action on Monday when they host the Florida State Seminoles. FSU is looking to make a return to the NCAA tournament after narrowly missing out in 2021-22. Ravens fans will hope to see coach Leonard Hamilton’s key recruit Taylor Bowen and top draft prospect Matthew Cleveland. Cleveland is considered by many to be a potential first-round pick in next year’s NBA draft. Cleveland will be joined by the team’s 2021-22 leading scorer Caleb Mills. Mills averaged 12.7 ppg with Cleveland adding another 11.5.
Both games tip off at 7:00 PM with tickets on sale now.
