OTTAWA- The support from the enthusiastic sold-out crowd was not enough for the men’s basketball team to capture a win to close out the CAN-AM Shootout series. Despite their effort, the Ravens end the summer series with an 0-4 record after falling 92-64 to the Oregon Ducks.
It was the Ducks' first time playing at the Ravens’ Nest but showed no struggle in adapting to a new court. The Ducks had the Ravens down early, struggling to score against Oregon’s tight defence. Aiden Warnholtz (Kanata, Ont.) played 9 minutes in the first quarter leading the team with 5 points. While the team struggled to find their range, Oregon stretched out their lead to 25-13 at the end of the first.
The Ducks continued to control the play in the second, capitalizing on the Ravens' mistakes and missed shots. With Carleton shooting only 22.9% from the field in the first half, the Ducks put up another 22 points in the second for a 47-29 lead at the half.
Oregon’s size and athleticism clearly showed throughout the second half as they continued to control the ball game. Senior forward, Quincy Guerrier (Montreal, Que.) was steady throughout the half putting up 15 points.
Despite this marking the fourth straight loss in the Ravens' summer series, the team will look to the positives as they gear up for the 2022 season.
On the outcome of the CAN-AM Shootout...
“We are going to find out from our crew and see where we are at. We have some time, we are going to reflect on it and take the positives from it and the negatives too.”
On the young team ...
“Carleton basketball has always been about culture and there are enough guys here that know what that culture is supposed to be. It is our job to teach the young guys what we need to do as a team and what that culture is like.”
The Ravens will continue to prepare for the 2022 season returning to exhibition play in October.
