OTTAWA – For the first time since week 1 in 2019 the Carleton Ravens football team find themselves in the U SPORTS Top 10. The Ravens are ranked 10th in the nation after an impressive 24-18 win at home on Saturday.
It was a monumental day at TAAG Park with new head coach Corey Grant becoming the first coach to lead the Ravens to victory in their debut since 1969. Shaiheem Charles-Brown showed off on defense setting a new program record with 4 sacks in the game, including three in the first half. On the offensive side of the ball, Ravens veteran quarterback Tanner DeJong broke 3,000 yards passing, while also passing Ravens legend Mark Lee for sixth all-time.
The Ravens held Andreas Dueck and the Marauders to 246 yards passing and only 267 yards of total offence while recording 7 sacks. Joshua Ferguson led the Ravens back field with 118 yards on 23 carries and 1 touchdown while also taking his lone reception 32 yards to the one, setting up a Tristan Rinaldis touchdown. Second-yard wide receiver Kaseem Ferdinand hauled in 11 catches for 92 yards and the team’s first TD of the season. Kaseem’s twin brother Denny had 96 yards to his name, with 80 spread out over four returns, including a 32-yard return to open the contest.
The Ravens will look to build on their early season momentum as they travel to Toronto on Sunday for a Labour Day Weekend battle under the lights.
