OTTAWA – On Saturday afternoon, the Ravens quickly opened their annual Throwback Game scoring 17 first-quarter points and never looked back en route to a 24-7 victory over the Windsor Lancers.
The Ravens now enter Panda week with a 3-2 record, good for fourth place in the OUA.
Joshua Ferguson (St. Catharines, Ont.) opened the scoring on a one-yard run to cap off a game-opening 57-yard drive just 3:25 into the first quarter. After Tanner DeJong (Brockville, Ont.) opened the drive with a 27-yard pass to Kaseem Ferdinand (Kanata, Ont.) the Ravens earned two more first downs before Ferguson punched his way in to finish the drive.
After the Ravens’ defence smothered Windsor into conceding a safety, Vincent Plouffe added a 34-yard rouge to extend the lead to 10-0. With the early lead, the Ravens’ defence proved relentless. After giving up an 11-yard rush to OUA leader Joey Zorn (Flint, MI), Othman Brahm (Laval, Que.) timed his jump perfectly, picking off Danny Skelton (Calgary, Alta.) for a 50-yard pick-six.
The Ravens would continue to control the Lancers throughout the second quarter while looking to find their momentum on offence taking the 17-0 lead into the half.
In the third quarter, Joey Zorn continued his strong season finishing by taking a one-yard around the end of a built-up Windsor line for the touchdown. The Windsor momentum would however prove shortlived. Denny Ferdinand (Kanata, Ont.) would return the ensuing kickoff 55-yards setting the Ravens up at the Windsor 47. On the first play of the next drive, DeJong would drive back and find Harvey Mafuta (Toronto, Ont.) who broke a pair of tackles before taking the ball 47 yards for the score.
The Ravens’ defence would smother the Lancers the rest of the way holding them to only 204 yards of total offence.
