OTTAWA – The Carleton Ravens remain undefeated after a strong 15-0 performance on Saturday night against the Montreal Carabins.
The Ravens opened the scoring early in the first half as Madison Cunha finished a pick and roll in the 24th minute to take a 5-0 lead. Vanessa Chiappetta would finish the conversion establishing a 7-0 lead that would hold through the first half. The two teams exchanged chances the rest of the first with Carleton coming up huge with a big defensive stand late in the second half.
The second half was a true measure of the rivalry between the two teams with big plays and intense hits. After Malak Saif el Nasr scored only two minutes into the second Montreal began to push back. Throughout the rest of the second, the two teams traded long offensive periods with penalties and key stops keeping a ruckus crowd at TAAG Park engaged. The Ravens’ defence, led by forwards Lauryn Walker and Anna Norman were a force throughout the night, building big stand after big stand and keeping the Carabins off the scoreboard.
With the win, the Ravens remain a perfect 3-0 but miss out on important bonus points in the RSEQ standings. With key matchups coming up against Laval and uOttawa, the Ravens will need to help themselves in the standings with key results and well-managed scoresheets.
On what the defensive play means for his team…
“Seeing the players keep Montreal off the scoresheet is a good booster for them, it shows that when push comes to shove they can get it done.”
On the value of facing a stronger opponent before Laval…
“I think for [the younger players] it’s always about development, and for the younger players they don’t know until they experience it, so this is a good stepping stone for them to prepare for Laval.”
