OTTAWA – The Carleton Ravens are off to a 1-0 start at the annual McKeen Metro Glebe Invitation after a 94-70 over the UBCO Heat.
The matchup offered fans a high-tempo pace that looks to set the tone for an exciting weekend ahead. The Ravens got off to a good start in the first quarter with first-year forward Florence Fortin leading all players with 7 points as Carleton led 24-11.
UBCO refused to let the Ravens run away in the second and outscored the Ravens 25-21 on 13 points from Jaeli Ibbetson. Despite Ibbetson’s strong quarter, the Ravens’ size continued to be the difference with 28 points in the paint leading to a 45-36 lead at the half.
The Ravens heated up in the third quarter shooting a staggering 66.7% while pulling ahead by 25. Kali Pocrnic led the way for the Ravens in the third quarter scoring 9 points while Sofia Ainsa Lluch scored 5 of her 13 to keep the Heat in the matchup.
UBCO would push back again in the fourth as both teams tightened their defence and scoring slowed. As both teams settled into the final quarter the coaches took advantage of the early season experience to rotate their benches through the lineup including several three, four and five-player substitutions.
The 4-team tournament resumes Saturday when UBCO plays UQAM at 4 PM followed by the Ravens hosting Concordia at 6 PM. Fans can enjoy both games for the price of one with tickets on sale now.
