The Ravens’ three-game road trip ended with a 3-0 loss to the uOttawa Gee-Gees Thursday night at Matt Anthony Field. uOttawa’s impressive attack scored three in the second half, including two goals after a Raven red card.
The Ravens spent much of the opening 45 minutes defending as uOttawa entered the match having scored 10 goals in their last two games. Despite the Gee-Gees holding the ball for most of the first half, Carleton managed to only allow one shot on target. U Sports’ leading goal scorer Cassandra Provost (Acton Vale, Que.) got her head on a uOttawa corner kick, but the shot was saved by Carleton goalkeeper Chloe Lachance-Soulard (Ottawa, Ont.).
The Gee-Gees’ found a fortunate bounce in the early stages of the second half. uOttawa midfielder Adriane Devlin (Stouffville, Ont.) played a cross into the box which took a funny hop off the turf and rolled past Lachance-Soulard to put the Ravens behind 1-0 in the 52nd minute.
In the 70th minute, Carleton defender Quinn Snell was sent off for a red card inside the box. With the Ravens down to 10 players, uOttawa’s Angelina Gendreau (Lancaster, Ont.) stepped up and scored the penalty kick to put Carleton down by two.
uOttawa would add one more goal before the end of this one. In the 81st minute, Allana Oriente (Montreal, Que.) struck a shot with her right foot from outside the 18-yard box that curled past Lachance-Soulard to make it 3-0.
With five minutes remaining, Chloe Lachance-Soulard (Ottawa, Ont.) made a fantastic diving stop with her right hand that might just earn her a spot in the OUA’s Top 5 plays of the week.
With the win, the Gee-Gees move into the top spot in the OUA East with a 6-1-1 record. The Ravens’ position in the table did not change after this one, as they still sit in fourth place with a 3-2-1 record.
The Ravens return to TAAG Park on Sunday, Oct. 2 for their second and final meeting with the uOttawa Gee-Gees. The match kicks off at 1 p.m. Tickets are available now!
