Carleton Ravens fencing is off to a strong start collecting three medals at the 2022 Hugh Munby Queen's Fencing Tournament.
Ravens Daniel Manyoki and Burke Wilson finished second and third in the Men's Sabre after meeting in the semifinals. Daniel lost by only two points in the final against the veteran and current OUA champion Alex Sun from Queen's.
"We have some work to do, but we are trying to build for an all Carleton OUA Final in February," acknowledged Ravens' coach Kyle Girard.
On the women's side of the competition, rookie Hope Johnson and veteran Jillian Hu-Chernykh both fenced very well placing top eight in their respective weapons. Raina Zhang made a huge splash in the competition with an excellent bronze medal performance in the Women's Sabre.
All told the Ravens' three-medals were combined with four other top ten performances including Quinn Cunnane (9th) and Laurenne Tynski (8th) in sabre, Hope Johnson (7th) in Epee and Jillian Hu-Tchernykh (8th) in the women's foil.
The Ravens will head back to training now as they continue to prepare for upcoming preseason events with all eyes set on taking steps up the podium at the 2023 OUA Championships this February.
