After a disappointing loss to the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks on Saturday night, the Carleton Ravens men’s soccer team responded in a big way with a dominant 6-1 performance on the road against the Trent Excalibur.
Carleton’s attack looked threatening in this one from the opening kickoff. The Ravens had two glorious chances in the opening 10 minutes including a shot off the post by Michael Blight (North Bay, Ont.) and a near-miss on a counterattack by Scott Mazzotta (Ottawa, Ont.).
The Ravens broke through in the 16th minute. The ball fell to Mohamed Bouzidi (Ottawa, Ont.) who danced through defenders before slotting it home to put Carleton up 1-0. Just two minutes later, Raphael Garcia (Ottawa, Ont.) played a through-ball to Scott Mazzotta (Ottawa, Ont.) who made up for his earlier miss calmly finishing the chance to put the Ravens up 2-0 inside the opening 20 minutes.
Carleton was not done there. Mohamed Bouzidi (Ottawa, Ont.) scored his second of the game in the 21st minute as the ball pin-balled around the Trent box before Bouzidi put it home and give Carleton a three-goal lead. Just before the half, a Trent own goal put the Ravens up 4-0 going into the break.
Early in the second half, the Excalibur pulled a goal thanks to a terrific effort from Ayomide Onafusi (London, Ont.) to dampen a near-perfect day on the pitch for the Ravens.
With 20 minutes to go, Devyn Viegas (Ottawa, Ont.) scored a fabulous bicycle kick off a Ravens corner. Daniel Williams (Montreal, Que.) would add a sixth in the dying minutes to finish off a dominant day for Carleton. With the win, the Ravens have now picked up six wins and 20 points through 10 matches which sees them sitting 3rd in a crowded OUA East division.
The Ravens wrap up their 2022 regular season next weekend at TAAG Park. First up is a rematch with the Trent Excalibur at 3:15 p.m. on Oct. 22. 24 hours later, the Ravens will face the TMU Bold at 3:15 p.m. for their final match of the season before Carleton kicks off their postseason run.
