It’s a huge weekend of OUA soccer as the 2022 regular season draws to a close. TAAG Park will be busy as the Carleton men’s and women’s soccer teams both are locked in tight playoff races with just two matches remaining in their respective schedules.
Saturday, Oct. 22 VS Trent Excalibur @ 1:00 p.m.
Sunday, Oct. 23 VS TMU Bold @ 1:00 p.m.
The Raven women enter the final weekend in excellent form on a three-game winning streak. Their 6-3-1 record is good enough for fifth in the OUA East, and a first-round appearance in the 2022 playoffs. The uOttawa Gee-Gees and Queen’s Gaels look like they will grab the first-round-byes with the two sides sitting #2 and #3 respectively in the latest U SPORTS rankings.
Carleton enters the final weekend trailing the Nipissing Lakers by just one point in the table while still holding a crucial game-in-hand. It looks as if the Lakers and Ravens are destined to finish fourth and fifth in the OUA East respectively with the order still to be determined. If that is the case, it means the two sides would face one another in the first round of the playoffs. This weekend is all about gaining home-field advantage for round one. Carleton won the only matchup between the two teams this season 1-0 at TAAG Park on Sept. 17.
The Ravens beat the TMU Bold and Trent Excalibur in their earlier matchups this season. Carleton beat the Bold 2-1 back on Sept. 24 and took down the Excalibur 2-0 on Oct. 16 on the road.
Saturday, Oct. 22 VS Trent Excalibur @ 3:15 p.m.
Sunday, Oct. 23 VS TMU Bold @ 3:15 p.m.
The Raven men enter the final weekend of the season with a strong 6-2-2 record, collecting an impressive 20 points through 10 matches thus far. The #6 nationally ranked Ravens currently sit third in the OUA East division trailing the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks with 30 points, and the TMU Bold with 24 points.
With the top 6 teams in each division making the playoffs, the Ravens have already qualified for the 2022 postseason. However, there is still a lot on the line as the Ravens chase the TMU Bold trying to grab the final first-round bye with the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks having already clinched the top spot. The Ravens will need two wins from this weekend and some Friday-night help from the Queen’s Gaels who take on the TMU Bold from Kingston, Ont.
The Ravens won their earlier matchups with both TMU and Trent defeating the Bold 3-0 in Toronto, Ont. back on Sept. 24 and taking down Trent 6-1 last weekend at Justin Chiu Stadium. Trent has yet to win a game on the road this season, and TMU has won 7-straight games since losing to Carleton.
