OTTAWA - The Carleton Ravens have wrapped up the 2022 regular season with a firm grip on third place after a 48-13 victory against Concordia on Saturday night.
With the win, the Ravens are one win away from a trip to the U SPORTS National Championship tournament after qualifying for the second RSEQ semifinal in program history.
After Maya Addai opened the scoring for the Ravens early in the first half, the floodgates opened for the Ravens who would jump out to an early 21-0 lead on tries from Vanessa Chiappetta (Rigaud, QC) and Lauryn Walker (Brampton, ON). Before the first half was out, Napanee's Charlotte Elliott would add a fourth try for the Ravens for a 26-5 first-half lead.
"All week we've been pretty hyped for this game," explained head coach David Luong. "Last year was a tight game, and this year we wanted to come out and make sure we put up the points early and continue to play strong the entire game."
The Ravens scoring would continue to come from a variety of sources in the second half including a late try from graduating forward Madison Cunha (Hamilton, ON). Cunha's tried followed shortly after Lauryn Walker scored her second of the game and halted any plans of a comeback the Stingers had.
The Ravens now prepare for an RSEQ semifinal against their crosstown rivals from uOttawa. With a trip to Victoria on the line, the Ravens will need a turn of fortunes from last week, when they were held off the board against a top-tier Gee-Gees team.
"We'll be really focused this week," said Luong. "As we break down film and fine-tune what we have built we'll come into Matt Anthony with a slightly different gameplan and hopefully a better result."
The Ravens and Gee-Gees will meet in the playoffs for the first time with the Ravens' 2018 trip to the semis being a hard-fought 23-12 loss to Laval.
