After a dramatic 2-1 win against the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks on Saturday, the Carleton Ravens women’s soccer team continued their winning ways on Sunday beating the Trent Excalibur on the road 2-0.
The Ravens picked up right where they left off on Saturday bringing the game to the Excalibur early on. Just 4 minutes in, Lauren Illman (Whitby, Ont.) headed home a corner to put Carleton up 1-0.
Trent nearly replied just 15 minutes later off a strike from defender Alex Shipp (Cannington, Ont.), but Carleton keeper Chloe Lachance-Soulard (Ottawa, Ont.) made a fantastic diving save on a shot that was destined for the top corner.
Lachance-Soulard would be called upon minutes later, tipping a corner kick just over the crossbar to protect the Carleton lead, as the Ravens led 1-0 at the break.
With about 15 minutes remaining and the Trent Excalibur putting the pressure on, the Ravens needed a spark to protect the lead. After a nice tackle from Jade Da Costa-Pacheco (Ottawa, Ont.), the ball fell into the feet of Lauren Illman (Whitby, Ont.) who fired a shot from about 25-yards out which flew into the back of the net giving Carleton a late 2-0 lead.
After losing three straight, the Ravens have now responded with three consecutive wins beating Trent, Ontario Tech, and Laurentian along the way. The Ravens now have 19 points from 10 matches and sit right in the heat of the OUA East playoff race.
The Ravens will finish the 2022 regular season with a pair of home games next weekend as they gear up for their postseason run. First up is a rematch with the Trent Excalibur on Oct. 22 at 1 p.m. live from TAAG Park. Carleton has lost just once this season at home.
The Ravens’ final match of the season will be against the TMU Bold on Oct. 23 at 1 p.m. as the two sides battle for playoff positioning.
