OTTAWA - The Carleton men's hockey team scored three times in the first and Mark Grametbauer made 37 saves as the Ravens beat RMC 4-1 on Saturday night.
After a strong third period which saw the Ravens jump out to a commanding lead the Paladins would press hard over the final forty minutes but the Halifax, N.S., goalie was solid for the Ravens collecting his third straight win and fifth in nine starts.
Nick McCarry (Calgary, Alta.) opened the scoring midway through the first when an Alexander Hogue (Embrun, Ont.) clearing attempt hopped over a Paladins stick and into the neutral zone. McCarry accelerated onto the loose puck and found himself alone with Paladins goalie Joey May. McMarry took advantage of an aggressive challenge to go forehand-backhand over the sprawling May to open the scoring.
Three minutes later Alex Johnston (Ottawa, Ont.) would finish a nifty 3-on-2 scoring what would prove to be the game winner before Parker AuCoin (Sturgeon County, Alta.) would score his U SPORTS leading fourteenth goal of the season tipping in a Simon Kerr pointshot to make it 3-0.
The Paladins wouldn't roll over, playing their way through Ottawa they battled hard over the final two periods outshooting the Ravens 31-17 as they tried hard to battle back. At every turn, the Paladins would find their offensive momentum halted by Grametbauer. The number four goalie in the nation in save percentage, Grametbauer was nearly flawless last deep into the third period before being beat by Isaac Pascoal for the lone RMC goal.
Ravens rookie Will Collins (Ottawa, Ont.) would add his second in as many games to reset the Ravens three-goal lead before Grametbauer shut the door the rest of the way as the Ravens held on for their third consecutive victory.
